Ode to the hundreds (history of EBBS)

I just logged on the hundreds' website just a few seconds ago and was greeted with a new page. The hundreds has been doing it for 5 years. Its not an old company at all and seeing the progress it has made in just a few years really got me to thinking about one of life's ultimate questions, but before I get into that lets talk hundreds. I don't skate and I'm not from LA, having said that you would think I would have no reason to support or wear a brand like TH. Right? My history in the streetwear culture all have something to do with drawing, college, bathing ape, and Supertalk. The one talent I can always thank god I have is drawing. I consider myself a decent artist. I didn't have a job my first year in college and to be honest didn't want one. I wanted money so I decided I needed to start a tee shirt brand. The first brand I noticed was a bathing ape. Back then (before nigo met pharrel) it didn't get a lot of media exposure (at least in the US) and was super underground. Bape was the shit, so I thought "hey I can do that too".

I mean how else do you go from this...

to this...

To make a long story short evil vader was developed (see 5th post from top, thats me). It was really just a ploy/foundation to eventually launch my very own streetwear brand that I would sell from on campus. So I started posting on supertalk.superfuture.com and that's where I met Bobby (online that is) and he was cool as fuck. As time passed by, I got a job, realized a lot of fags post on supertalk, and I gave up the ambition of starting a tee shirt company.

So about the ultimate life question that I was inspired to answer from the hundreds page, its a very simple question: How do I leave a imprint on this world before I go?

Or is it?

Remember this:

Almost brings a tear to my eye, and I don't know why. So lets have it for the hundreds, leaving a mark on the streetwear scene and getting their dreams and art sense out there. $uccess is not easy to come by so even though it ($,$,$,$) was not mentioned in the entire post, I know Ben and Bob are somwhere in LA rolling in dough, and why shouldn't they.

WTF moment

Guess who these guys are? No, don't know? Highlight below to see.

Made in America

Baron Davis (the coolest b ball player in the world) is directing a documentary on gangs in Los Angeles. The documentary is called made in america and it is produced by skate legend/Dogtown producer Stacy Peralta. I've seen quite a few documentaries on gang culture but this one seems different, mostly because of that one scene in which a guy my age asks(spoiler alert) for someone to save him. I will definetely be watching out for it and post more if I get more info.

Crooks and castles "Castellano"

The castellano shades from Crooks and castles are now available at 5 & A dimes online store. If you are interested in picking up a pair you wanna head over there now, cuz these bad boys will probably not last very long. I personally can't do anything but drool over the medusa bomber jacket below. That ish is Ill. Not ill enough for me to shell over $128, but ill none the less.

Breaking News: Giants trade Shockey!

The New York Giants and New Orleans Saints have agreed in principle to a trade that will send tight end Jeremy Shockey to New Orleans. Saints spokesman Greg Bensel on Monday confirmed the trade. The Saints did not immediately say what they were giving to the Giants in exchange. NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the Saints will give up second- and fifth-round picks in next year's draft.

Big news coming from the defending super bowl champions, but I knew it was coming. I can only imagine what it must be like to win a superbowl ring that you don't deserve. I wonder if shockey was the one that got the executives over in the Giants camp talking trade or if it were the other way around.

Black in America: A Response (RealtalkNy.uproxx.com)

CNN just asked hiphop blog RealtalkNY.net to speak on the show blacks in america recently, and we were asked to comment on the state of blacks in this country, this was my response.

Things in this country will never change for us unless the 'black culture' completely changes. The black culture in america, and I am speaking in general terms now, is the hip hop culture. We don't value education and building real wealth in our communities as much as we should. Big rims and dropping out of school is our culture.Saving money and graduating college is either viewed as unattainable or just not cool. Having kids at too young an age and no sense for commitment in our marriages are things that define this african american culture. Being super tough and animalistic is too often caused not by desperation but peer pressure, gangs are the way to go whether or not you need 'protection'. Don't even get me started on how cool rap has made drug dealing in highschools nationwide (and I don't mean just the innercities or even public schools).

Too many poor blacks feel like they have no way out, and most times it's true. Human nature is to care about one thing, ourselves, and because of that we choose to ignore those lesser than us even if they are our own race.

After this interview nothing will change. Absolutely nothing will change, unless the culture changes. The problem is the 'black culture' makes toooo much money for the record companies, movie industry, and generally is too ingrained in african americans today that we don't care to teach our kids anything different.

That's big of CNN but I wonder if they are really trying to make things better or are just trying to get more viewers.

WHY SO SERIOUS....

Just came back from a sold out showing of the Dark Knight a few minutes ago and my mind is racing. You know the feeling when you saw saw I, the movie that was everything they said it would be. Shocking, daring, bloody, and well executed. The feeling that you had just watched a movie that met your grand expectaions. Well the Dark Knight wasn't that moive. If you saw the movie you know what I'm talking about. The movie is brilliant in all its parts. It doesn't dissapoint, it doesn't deliver, it overachieves. It does what Bryan Singer tried to do with Superman but didn't work, and it's what the wachowski brothers wanted to do with the Matrix 2 and 3 but didn't have the patience.

Both movies were not able to find a perfect balance that all great action movies have between story and action. Chris Nolan is able to offer us an incredibly deep story and enough action to wet anyones hollywood blockbuster appetite. The Dark Knight is like many reviewers have written. Its a movie that stays with you long after you've finished watching it. And frankly if you don't have a stomach to see a really 'dark' movie then you don't want to see this one, because this is one sick puppy that will never lose its place as being a true black classic.

Oh and about the saw thing, I did that on purpose, don't take it personal.

The Dark Knight in theaters today!

I already got tickets. Considering that Rottentomatoes (In my opinion is the only place to go for movie reviews; seeing as they rate 90% of the movies that come out as garbage, and only the best ones get recognition) the Dark Knight is one of the best reviewed movies this year (94%, wow)! Check out the article here.

BAPE x Nintendo

Whenever I come across stuff like this it reminds of how much I love this brand. Only a Bathing Ape could pull this off and make it uber cool. Apparently a Bape is working with Nintendo to release not just three tees (as you probably already know, see hypebeast) but a number of items that will explore both brands affinity for eccentric characters and products. I mean just look at the kind of products my man Nigo puts out (see below). As far as I know he's the first one to put a plain white t-shirt with his logo, in a bottle, put the bottle in a box, put a price tag of $500+ on it, and have 50 or more people line up the day of release trying to get their hands on it. Amazing products? Street credibility? Marketing genius? Whatever it is a Bathing Ape is not going away anytime soon.

Mike Shinoda of linkin park fame threw a part in LA yesterday to show off some of his own made artwork. According to the hundreds.com the show commented on our cultural obsession with celebrity and Hollywoodization of everyday life. The show will be open July 12th to August 3rd at the Japanese American National Museum in downtown L.A.

The Dark Knight returns

Batman returns still is the greatest comic book movie ever, and the Dark knight series of comics are by far the darkest and most interesting books DC has ever released. Its been a long time coming and it's almost here. The Dark knight hits theaters July 18, and I am PSYCHED! Movie reviewer Peter Travers even called Christian Bales performance Godfather Al Pacino like, and about Heath Ledgers performance reminiscent of the madness of Clock work orange. No doubt this movie will be the greatest movie of the summer, not only in the US but around the world.

A MILLI

No one works harder than this man, at least when it comes to recording. Definetely the hottest record right now.

#4 IS COMING BACK, maybe

Brett favre, the legendary packers quarterback might be coming back to the NFL to don the green and gold once again. Just this morning a secret source told ESPN that the Brett told Green bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy that he had the itch to play again. There has been a lot of mixed reaction to whether or not he should be coming back, but I say OF COURSE WE WANT HIM BACK! It can only mean good things for the nfl and better things for the packers organization. I am a packers fan and you can't convince me that the packers can make it to the superbowl in the next 5 years with aaron rogers at the helm. Sorry, not possible.
