INCEPTION (2 of 2)

Manipulation of the mind is near impossible if the observer is aware that the manipulation is taking place.

"Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one" (quote, Warner Bros. summary of Inception). Ironically while you are watching this great 'impossible' crime taking place on screen you yourself, the viewer, are getting an idea implanted into your subconscious - Suicide is good.

Do not watch this movie without being aware that it is an attempt to do just what it claims to be exploring. Inception is a very wicked and cruel movie, especially for a young impressionable teenage generation, an R rating would have been more appropriate.

Interesting. I came away with the opposite conclusion...that the message was to lose one's grip on reality, and fail to live in it, (e.g. the conversation that Cobb has with the professor), or to take your life in order to try and gain a different reality, (e.g. Cobb's wife's pointless death) both represent a wasted life.

I also think that the movie was excellent at challenging the low value we put on truth in Western cultures...(if your cinema was like mine, the audience REALLY cared that we don't get to discover whether it was reality at the end of the film).

I therefore think that the film is potentially a great way to challenge our friends about the common assumption that we can be apathetic regarding whether the Christian view of reality is true or not. Truth about reality matters.

"An idea once it's been implanted, is a resilient parasite." - quote, Inception

I know that my review might seem a bit simple and rash. I posted the review almost immediately after seeing the movie. I'm still holding to my guns. I'm not taking anything away from Chris or his work, he's a master at what he does. Unfortunately some really disturbed kid is going to watch this blockbuster movie and have a different reaction to it than you or I did.

This isn't the first movie that has asked the audience to question 'reality', but it's also one of the few that delves into very dark impressionable ideas. SPOILER ALERT...

Cobb: Eventually, She tells me the truth that she was possessed by an idea, a very simple idea, that our world wasn't real and in order to get back to the reality, We'll have to kill ourselves.

That's bogus.
